Apparently, Xvid is the codec that has been causing issues. I can't seem to make it install... like at all. I run the exe, and it goes through all the motions, installs all the stuff that shows up in the start menu, without actually installing the codec itself.
Now I've tried it about 12 times today and as near as I can tell the install bar only makes it halfway, then it flashes to the install complete window. I've googled and googled all damn day, but I can't find a mention of this happening to anyone else. Usually Xvid issues are because the files/folder it needs are set to read-only, or you're not logged in as an admin. But I don't think that's the case here.
It just bugs the hell out of me that I can watch my Dark Angel avis with WMP, but I can't vid with them using WMM. Something is just wrong with that.

Anyone one my flist know how to get WMM to recognize the new codecs I've installed? I've restarted my computer 3 times since I installed them, and I can play the clips using WMP, but WMM is still only showing AVI Decompresser Ver 6.6.6 (No, I'm not making that up) on the compatibility tab, and the imported clips won't play at all.
According to the About tab I'm using Windows Movie Maker 6.0.6.

and I hate it right back.
Okay, so Windows Vista isn't actually all that bad. A few small compatibility twinges, kmplayer won't play sound on DVDs, winamp has a 'program cannot open due to [file] missing error on launch, but it works anyway. The biggest nitpick I have with it is how the save box works. Okay, lets say I make an icon in PSP. I go 'Save-As' and direct it to the folder I want, now all of my icons are named for the fandom, then numbered (firefly001.png). Well before I would just click on a preexisting file, to get that filename on my current icon, then I would change the number to the next sequentially. Well Vista won't let me do that. Once I click on that preexisting file it will only let me save over it, no matter what I type in the filename box. It's getting very annoying having to type out the filenames over and over again.
I'm quite happy with the rest of my computer upgrade though. I'm now running an AMD Anthlon 64 FX-62 Dual Core. I still want a new set of speakers, since my old ones make an o' so lovely crackling noise when you adjust the volume, but that'll have to wait.
I still need to install Office, and I need to re-download most of my screen capping stuff, as I forgot to back up that stuff.

My mom just called to wish me a happy birthday. She's currently doing inventory at her store so it was a nice surprise. I told her how CB hadn't quite remembered it was my B-day yet. About 2 minutes after I hung up with her, she called his phone. Unfortunately for him he left it here this morning.
*giggles* That was nice of her. Made me feel a lot better.

Thank you guys for the birthday wishes, I only wish my husband had remembered. Of course since his walking appt. book will remind him of the date when he gets to work, he'll probably bring home a nice gift and I'll let him pretend that was the plan.
I will however kill him if he doesn't remember by tonight.

Right, well we finally went out a bought the HD-DVD add on drive for our Xbox 360. Seemed like a good time since we just finished installing the surround sound.
It's so sweet! They were sold out of Serenity, so we got Pitch Black, and Chronicles of Riddick. Man, the detail. Vin looks even better in HD.

I so need a life. The highlight of my day was watching an old episode of Law and Order: CI while folding laundry.
I made my new default icon, well I sorta accidentally made my icon while experimenting with light textures while I was making a new mood theme. I'm working on a Riddick/River moodtheme, and so I used the pics I had open at the time and managed to create it. I really like how it came out.
Ooh, before I forget, I also got a new layout for
jaded_icons. The layout is from here and I sorta whipped up a header/icon mix to go with it. I keep meaning to start teaching myself CSS, but I'm still struggling with html.
I'm also un-friends locking my journal. I mean I may flock an entry or two in the future if I post pics of myself or family, but I doubt my meme posts need to be locked.

Found this on a random LJ page:
Step 1: Put your media player on random.
Step 2: Pick your favorite lines from the first 25 songs that play.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song the lines come from.
Step 4: Cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
I never realized exactly how many songs I have that I've never heard before.
